Description
All our mains are built in a ‘cross cut’ format, and feature six point zig zag stitching on the seams and on the corner patching (including any reefs) for reliable anti chafe properties and seam integrity, using Sun Stop thread for greater UV resistance and durability.
As standard our mainsails come with a bolt rope to give added strength and are fitted with sail sliders that best suit your mast section (specify your slider type when ordering). A loose foot is our default option as this gives you greater control over the sail shape to boost you performance, but a rope foot option exists too.
We only fit tapered battens as standard as this gives the best sail shape: it’s not just the racers that deserve good sail shape! Leach lines are also fitted as standard, made off with a clam cleat for a neat finish with an option to have terminals at all reefs.
The head of the sail is fitted with a Rutgerson stainless ‘Super Ring’, but a head board can be selected if you want a little more roach. You can choose from none to three reefs (with 2 our ‘default’ option), and all are heavily reinforced at luff and leach and again are fitted with Rutgerson stainless ‘Super Rings’ – we don’t use cheap plastic rimmed rings anywhere!
Tack angles are an important feature of our mainsails (the tack angle is the angle between the aft face of the mast and the top of the boom when the sail is in normal sailing use). We built the tack angle on our standard mainsails at a specific 89 degree angle: If you have a boat with a main sheet arch (such as are seen on Hunter Legends) or a large cockpit shelter (some Fisher yachts for example) then this standard angle may not work for your yacht and we recommend you call the team at Kemp Sails for a bespoke designed sail instead.
For luff lengths from 4.00m to 17.93m and Foot lengths from 2.00m to 8.50m – explore all the options so you can build the spec to suit you!
