Custom made furling mainsail to fit boats up to around 55ft LOA

Description

All our in-mast mains are built in a ‘cross cut’ format, and feature six point zig zag stitching on the seams and on the corner patching for reliable anti chafe properties and seam integrity, using Sun Stop thread for greater UV resistance and durability.

The head and tack are finished with soft webbing loops to allow for easy furling and the clew comes as standard with a press in Rutgerson stainless ‘Super Ring’ (we don’t use cheap plastic rimmed rings!): you can upgrade the clew with a block if you don’t already have one, or the gold standard is an integral roller block fitted instead.

The luffs of our in mast mains are fitted with a low friction luff tape with a self-selected bead to match your system (specify your size when ordering), and feature a slight ‘hollow’ (or concave shape) to compensate for the sag associated with in-mast furling as the inner mandrel moves, and this also helps the main keep a nice flat shape when reefed.

Tack angles are an important feature of our mainsails (the tack angle is the angle between the aft face of the mast and the top of the boom when the sail is in normal sailing use). We built the tack angle on our in-mast mains at a specific 86.5 degree angle meaning they meet the requirements of all the popular mast brands (Selden, Z Spar Sparcraft etc): if you have a boat with a main sheet arch (such as are seen on Hunter Legends) or a large cockpit shelter (some Fisher yachts for example) then this standard angle may not work for your yacht and we recommend you call the team at Kemp Sails for a bespoke designed sail instead.

For luff lengths from 4.00m to 17.93m and Foot lengths from 2.00m to 8.50m – explore all the options so you can build the spec to suit you!
